Holy Girl Run is an online social club founded by a South London Christian Girly passionate about fellowships who wants to build an accepting, loving, and God-fearing community of girls trying to become Proverbs 31 women. Navigating modesty, healthy relationships and a mindset in a space that thrives on vanity can be difficult. Therefore, Holy Girl Run encourages us to look outside ourselves and see how we can encourage others to work through gluttony, pride and anxiety. We're constantly being guided by spiritual community leaders like pastors, elders, and deacons ready to talk to us about relationships, mental health and navigating life as a young adult.
" Hi, My name is Hannah! I am a Christian trying to navigate a healthy lifestyle without all these fad diets and self-idols that are prominent in today's online fitness communities. My friend Emma said she wanted to start an online community for Christians in fitness that's genuine and focused on the Lord; and not a pre-workout to boost your mood. I love this community because although we all met through our love for running, we are connected through our love of anime, drawing and more importantly God."
Running is the most accessible form of exercise suitable for beginners, and people from different socio-economic backgrounds, and only requires some running shoes. Holy Girl Run focuses on that and encourages people from all walks of life to get active, whether that's skipping, prayer walks, or weightlifting. We hope to expand to support community evangelism projects like faith-based companies, volunteer work and marathons. But for know its all about finding your galpal in Christ and locate your bible study buddy.
"Heyyy my name's Mia. I was nervous to join this community— Only because I just got into fitness and I don't really run that regularly, but I'm not the only one. Basically, I was on and off going to gym and constantly fighting with gym guilt and gym anxiety. Gym guilt from missing out days and gym anxiety when showing up when I don't feel as fit as I used to. People never really talk about how most of your fitness journey is mindset and that's why Holy Girl Run was refreshing. Like I could talk about the way I felt with other beginners and use the resources and guidance from community spiritual leaders to build my self-esteem and confidence by knowing how the Lord operates in my life.
If you're a beginner don't stress, you don't have to start running right away! You can start by walking to the next bus stop, powerwalking to your corner shop, or jogging to your local library. In our resources guide, we can provide websites to track clear running routes in your area, and find different running events like ParkRunUK and prayer walk info.
"My name is Julie (Julia), I started prayer walks in 2020 to get out of my house for a bit and that was the beginning of my fitness journey. I started power walking around my neighbourhood and then started jogging this year. My fitness journey has felt so lonely, that I joined many other secular fitness groups that turned self-love into self-worship and forgot that the point of fitness is health. Even though I was part of those online communities I felt excluded as a heavier woman because the diet transitions were unrealistic, and everyone was lying to each other and shaming each other— it felt V toxic. I think I have found my community at Holy Girl Run, there are just so many people helping each other, and being transparent about how they feel and we can lift each other with the bible while sharing amazing recipes."
